A.) Copyright and Fair Use:
This is a not-for-profit educational website. It may contain copyrighted material the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. I'm making such material available in my efforts to advance the understanding of humanity's problems and hopefully to help find solutions for those problems. These materials include, but are not limited to, materials related to politics, the environment, human rights, economics, democracy, social justice, humanitarian issues, and scientific issues. I believe this constitutes a 'fair use' of any such copyrighted material as provided for in section 107 of the US Copyright Law. In accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107, the material on this website is distributed without profit to those who have expressed a prior interest in receiving the included information for research and educational purposes. A click on a hyperlink is a request to access information. If you wish to use copyrighted material from this website for purposes of your own that go beyond 'fair use', you must obtain permission from the copyright owner.
B.) Is your copyrighted material here?
I believe that the legal "fair use" of copyrighted material should, in general, be counterbalanced by the best interests of the legal owner of the copyright.
C.) Direct Linking:
You are welcome to link to any pages on this website.
Summary -- Posting a link to any page here is OK, and is encouraged.
However, please don't link directly to any other types of files on this website. Such direct linking is also called "hotlinking".
Summary -- Posting a link to any file here that's not a page is not OK.
The main reason I don't want you to link directly to any files on this website (other than pages) is that it uses bandwidth. I have to pay a hosting company for the bandwidth used for the display of all files hosted on this website. Not much, but it adds up. Linking directly to images or other files here makes me pay for displaying the file to visitors to your page (or wherever else you might post them). Linking directly ("hotlinking") to an image (or any other file other than a "page") is sometimes considered "theft of bandwidth". Besides being illegal, it's not a nice thing to do to me! A better way to use an image from here (or any other file besides a page) wherever you want would be to copy it and host it yourself. If you don't already have a place to host it yourself, there are free hosting services where you could store the copied image (or other file) for you to link directly to, wherever and whenever you want to. That way you wouldn't be making me pay for you using or displaying my files elsewhere, and it wouldn't cost you anything either.
